NEWS : Boko Haram kills 43 in Borno attack

Boko Haram militants have killed at least 43 people in a five-hour assault on the town of Gubio, Borno State, witnesses said yesterday.
The attack, which a military source said involved a convoy of about 50 Boko Haram members storming Gubio, lasted for about five hours on Saturday afternoon and ended about 9.30pm, local resident Malam Yusuf Mohammed said.
Details of such attacks often take a number of days to surface outside of the affected areas due to poor telecommunications.
Mohammed estimated that more than 400 houses had been burned by the insurgents.
“They came, shooting, threatening to kill everybody. They set fire on many houses, burnt down our peoples’ vehicles and motorcycles. We lost 43 people including two children,” Abubakar Mondama, leader of a local vigilante group, told journalists.
Military authorities are analysing some video/clips indicating that foreigners hold positions of power within the Boko Haram set-up.
They are being analysed. The clips are among those found…

Lewis HamiltonMONACO (Reuters) – Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton took the first Monaco Grand Prix pole position of his career on Saturday as Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg blew his own hopes of a qualifying hat-trick.Rosberg, winner from pole for the past two years on the twisty metal-fenced streets where passing is almost impossible, qualified second in an overcast final session with rain threatening.“It’s been a long time,” said an elated Hamilton, whose only win in Monaco came in his 2008 championship year with McLaren from third place on the grid.“It wasn’t an easy session…I didn’t have the rhythm until the last two laps.“This is incredibly special for me,” added the Monaco resident, well aware the race has been won from pole for the last six years, of his 14th successive front row start and fifth pole in six races.Rosberg’s hopes disappeared when he locked up the front wheels at the Sainte Devote corner at the start of his abandoned final quick lap to leave Hamilton 0.…

FACTS : 14 realities every couple faces after the one-day breakup

“Don’t talk to me.”“I said, don’t talk to me ever again you f*cking dick.”“Oh wow, you’re so f*cking pathetic.”“Oh yeah, f*ck you.”“Don’t talk to me. I don’t want to see you again.”“We’re done.”Sound familiar? Are you cringing as you read the words, reminded of your own hostility and (most likely) overreaction? Are you thinking about those embarrassing sobs to your friends over what a dick he is?Are you scorning yourself for acting like such a dramatic idiot who told everyone you were breaking up, only to get back together hours later?Don’t be. The one-day breakup is an inevitable point in any relationship — as embarrassing and messed up as it is.Every couple experiences that fateful moment when they have their first fight, the first real threat of not being together forever. That earth-shattering moment when you leave the honeymoon phase and realize this might not actually be forever. We’re bound to snap at some point, whether it be over something big or something as stupid as a misplac…

SPORTS : Jonathan didn’t impose Keshi on NFF —PINNICK

Preside at of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick, admits he has not found life easy as head of the country’s football body. In this interview with PIUS AYINOR, he talks on his challenges and his plans to move the NFF forwardHow has it been running the federation? It has been a very tough call because football is a kind of religion in the country. It is the only thing that unites people. It is the number one, two and three sport in Nigeria. After football, there is hardly any other sport that attracts the attention football creates. We have a population of close to 170 million people eager to get only positive results. Because of this, it has been very challenging. Some weeks back, I was accosted at Hilton by a Nigerian that was very furious. He held me and requested that I explain to him certain things. I thought it was a joke until he asked me to sit down and he demanded with rage to know a lot of things. Although he later apologised, you could see the kind of enthusiasm t…
